The August 4th Thank You Dinner
Many who couldn’t attend have asked about the August 4, 2007 thank you dinner given by the Camp Board. Here’s a brief review of the evening.
“Great to see so many friends I hadn't seen in a long time. Right away it's wonderful to renew old friends, just like it was yesterday.” Those were remarks heard after a beautiful Michigan evening, when 200 gathered beneath a huge tent and were treated to a delicious buffet. Many non-alumni Camper Parents in particular, told us they really enjoyed hearing Marilyn Rinker tell a bit about the history of the Camps and how the Camps got to where they are right now. Clark prompted wonderful comments from alumni. Keith Johnson and Wendy Harrop talked about the upcoming activities of the Alumni Clubs.
The campers and families from all generations were honored for their support of Camps. The evening closed with Paul Hufstader singing “To the Times,” “’Round the Blazing Council Fire Light” (joined by others), and taps. From a first time camper parent, “The common bond of Christian Science love that was expressed during this gathering was outwardly apparent. The alumni dinner and the generations that had attended Leelanau and Kohahna over the years and the couples who had met at Camp made a very positive impression.” Thanks to everyone who attended, and for those who couldn’t … we missed you!
Camps’ Generation Album
This summer an album was started to help preserve the history of Camp Leelanau for Boys and for Girls and Camp Kohahna. Album pages were sent out to over 30 families who have had three or more generations or ten or more family members attend Camp. There is now an album started which is rich in history and will go on in the future. All the pages are unique filled with family lineage and pictures – past and present. Be sure to see the album at Camp next summer. We will be putting the pages on the web in the future.
All alumni, camper and counselor families who would like to have your family represented in this Album please email marcia@leelanau-kohahna.org to get album pages and the “directions.”
