Securing the Future
Last summer marked 20 years of independent operation of Camps Leelanau and Kohahna at Pyramid Point, the original home of Camp Kohahna, and over 85 years of summer camping programs. Countless campers, some representing 3 generations of their family, have benefited from the traditions and achievement that characterize the Camps. The Board remains committed to offering challenging activities that foster growth and help young people shed limitations. Quality programs with time tested success in camping, athletics, water sports, horsemanship, and the arts, teach both technical and leadership skills. Campers and staff learn to apply the principles of Christian Science in their daily lives in a way that naturally brings insight and healing.
The purpose of the Leelanau and Kohahna Endowment Fund is to guarantee income for the camps, both now and in the future. Investments in the Endowment Fund generate income that is used primarily for camperships, capital improvements, and supplementing counselor salaries. Camp tuition does not cover these costs.
Alumni and friends of the Camps have the opportunity to secure the future of this legacy by supporting the Endowment Fund. Contributions to the Leelanau and Kohahna Endowment Fund, as well as inclusion in estate planning are welcome. For more information, see the Ways to Give page.
A thank you gift…
If your Camp experience happened at the Port Oneida location, you most likely have fond memories of meeting by the Big Tree for activities. This past year the tree has “donated” a few limbs to Camp. As the limbs have fallen, Betty Rhoades, a Kohahna fixture herself, has taken them and used the wood to create some unique and beautiful bowls. Those who donate $1,000 or more to the Endowment fund, can request a bowl. Please make this note with your contribution, and we would be happy to send you one, while they last. Bowls vary in size from 3” to 5” wide.
